Monday: Chess Club with the Chess Emporium
Great chess players are great thinkers. The strategy and understanding that children learn from chess allows them to have higher intellect, improved self-esteem, and concentration. Chess helps them to make better decisions in all aspects of their life & most importantly children have fun while learning. Grades K-8 welcome. Room 414. Monday: Practice Club
4th-8th grade Band, Strings, and Choir students can sign up for practice club. Students can work on any music they are studying in class, work with other students, prepare for auditions, and receive assistance from Mr. Bonds. Please sign up in the front office. Room 202. Club is from 3:50-4:50 and is FREE.
Tuesday: Sprouts Spanish Class with ABSi Spanish
The Sprouts class is designed for first through fifth grade students. This group will continue to reinforce academic vocabulary (numbers, colors, food, etc.) and basic phrases (hola, adiós, me llamo, ¿cómo estás?) through thematic units. Children will listen to bilingual books, learn songs and chants and do art activities to stay engaged! They will be encouraged to write, read and occasionally complete practice pages to demonstrate their learning. Parents will be updated on themes via email. Tuesday: danceAZ Introductory Ballet Class Series
Dance is the perfect way for children to connect to themselves and to others while learning discipline, practicing self-expression, and cultivating their social and emotional intelligence. As the leader of dance performance and instruction in the state, Ballet Arizona is proud to be able to offer high-quality introductory ballet classes at Shaw Montessori. If your child has ever wanted to try ballet, this is the class for them! We offer a fun, engaging curriculum that helps children explore dance and ballet while learning about themselves and working with others. This class is open to 3rdand 4thgraders – no dance experience required! Tuition is $130 per student and will be held in room 415. Space is limited to the first 20 students who sign up. 10 or more students must be registered by 1/25 or the class will not run. Tuesday: Little Coders (K-2)
Get them started early! The Little Coders class provides young students with the basics of computational thinking skills, such as loops and conditionals, through a fun blend of hands-on activities. The curriculum is built specifically for this age group, with a mix of activities from coding puzzles and board games to easy-to-use, drag-and-drop programming tools. Projects are updated each session, so returning students will have new challenges to work through and advance their knowledge. Class will be held in room 446. Tuesday: Game Development Beg/Int (3rd-5th)
Do you play games and wonder how they are created? Would you like to build your own computer programs? Come learn how at the Coding with Kids Academy! In this fun after-school class, you will be introduced to the core concepts of computer programming, including loops, conditionals and variables. Using the Scratch development environment, you will learn how to create your own programs, such as simple games, animations, and interactive stories. With new projects each session, you will be able to express your creativity and advance as a coder! Our progressive curriculum will allow you to move to the next level after just 1-2 sessions. Wednesday: JumpBunch Sports & Fitness for Kids
Help build healthy habits early! JumpBunch is an international program developed to provide exercise to kids in a structured format. A new sport or fitness activity is introduced each week that helps build coordination, balance, and confidence. Activities for the spring semester include Super Bowl Football, Hula Hoopla, Hockey, Field Day, Lacrosse, Kickball, Tee Ball, Tennis, and much more! Classes are held at Shaw Montessori for Preschool and Kindergarten students every Wednesday from 12:45-1:35 & 1:45-2:35. Mid-day release students attend 12:45 session; All-day students attend 1:45 session. See class flyer for additional information. Wednesday :: JB Multi-Sport
Students learn something new each and every week, and not just the same team sports! These multi-sport classes offer a high level, fun introduction to a new sport or fitness activity each week and with over 70 different lesson plans, there is something for everyone. The rules and skills of each activity are introduced through hands-on exercises, so kids begin playing and improving right away. We keep it fun, but at these ages, children appreciate a bit of competition too. The goals are to help make every student comfortable trying new sports, to give them a basic understanding of popular sports, and to help them appreciate the fun and rewards of regular physical activity. Wednesday :: Mad Science Preschool Program
Mad Science programs spark imaginative learning when school is out! Preschoolers are natural scientists, and we feed their curiosity with sensory activities, guided exploration, and age-appropriate science vocab. Each class comes with an official Mad Science take-home project to keep the learning going after class. Room 414 12:40 – 1:40. Thursday :: Twinkle Toes Productions
Dance is a great way to involve your children in a fun and fit activity that combines sport, music, art, and drama. Twinkle Toes Dance Productions is a mobile enrichment program that is great for boys and girls because of the different dance styles that we offer during each class. We bring our mobile company to yourchild’s school, so you save on valuable time, gas, and energy! Your child will also have the opportunity to perform in our Annual Spring Recital held in May. Classes are held Thursdays in room 415. Class times are half-day Pre-K 12:45-1:30, full-day Pre-K-through 6th grade from 3:45 – 4:30. Thursday :: Mad Science Elementary Program
Mad Science programs spark imaginative learning when school is out! Let your child experience first-hand how much fun science can be. Mad Science class is packed with fascinating demonstrations and hands-on activities to let kids explore scientific concepts for themselves. Our curriculum correlates with AZ State Standards in Science and each class comes with an official Mad Science take-home project to keep the learning going after class. Grades K-5th.
